An Important Message From President Steve Votaw

Posted on December 2, 2021

During my time at the Furniture Bank, our organization has undergone many changes. From upgraded client services to the addition of our thrift stores, it’s these very changes that have made us a stronger and more successful organization. None of it would have been possible without the care and determination of our staff, volunteers, partners, and donors like yourself. Because of this wonderful community of supporters, I know the next transition for the Furniture Bank will be smooth and leave the organization stronger than ever before.

It is with a mix of sadness and extreme gratitude that I announce that this will be my last year as the Furniture Bank President, as I plan to retire.

It has been my privilege and honor to serve the mission of the Furniture Bank for the last 7 years and the greater Columbus community for the last 32. While there is never a perfect time to leave an organization, the Furniture Bank today is strong both financially and programmatically and has a wonderful Board and staff in place to expand its reach to central Ohio families in need. After a strategic national search, the Board has also identified a new CEO to lead the Furniture Bank into its bright future.

I am proud to announce the next President & CEO of the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio is Phil Washburn, a local leader with 15 years of nonprofit experience. He begins his new role on December 6, 2021.

Phil, a graduate of Bowling Green State University, has an impressive history of stabilizing organizations for long-term growth and has focused on affordable housing and social enterprises. Most recently, he served as the senior director of programs for Habitat for Humanity Mid-Ohio.

When asked about his future at the Furniture Bank, Phil said “I am honored and excited for the opportunity to lead this great team, the passionate volunteers, and committed supporters through the next chapter of the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio. Together we seek to help more families turn their empty house into a home.”

The Furniture Bank has a very bright future with many exciting changes ahead. Please know we have a great team, and they will not miss a beat during this transition. After all, it’s change that has led our organization to growth and success.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Phil Washburn to our Furniture Bank Family, and I thank you for letting me lead us on our journey to ensure every child has a bed to call their own.

With immense gratitude,

Steve Votaw, President & CEO
