What Does Furniture Mean?

Furniture is the setting for life’s moments. It’s where critical conversations happen. Where impromptu moments cause laughter. And where we comfort each other after a hard day.

Furniture Solves a Real Physical Need.

We help families and individuals struggling with poverty and other severe‚Äč life challenges. Often, every spare dollar earned or received goes to basic needs like food and health care. When you have to choose between a bed or dinner for the next few weeks, dinner wins.

Furniture Is Where Critical Moments Take Place.

In our homes, the most critical conversations take place around dinner tables and couches. It’s where spouses comfort each other at the end of a long day. Where parents help their children with their math homework. Where siblings gather together over games and toys.

Furniture Is Essential To The Basic Activities Of Life.

Imagine laying down on a floor or air mattress at the end of a long hard day. Or eating your dinner on a cardboard box while sitting in a lawn chair. There’s a certain feeling of defeat that settles when you find yourself scraping by. Furniture can have a psychological impact that, despite previous struggles, life can be normal again.

Since Our Start, We’ve Helped 65,000+ Families Throughout Central Ohio.

The Furniture Bank began with a single man, a red pickup truck, and a simple idea. In the 20 years since, we’ve grown both our operations and our impact. Today, we process more than 60,000 pieces of furniture every year and partner with 75+ agencies & non-profits. We’ve opened a thrift store and introduced a downsize and moving service to support our business. And, we operate a furniture pickup system that makes it extremely easy to connect your gently used furniture to a real individual or family in need.

In 2018 alone, with the help of our donors and volunteers, we have been privileged to help:

3,337 families

nearly 10,000 individuals

more than 4,900 children
