Repair slightly damaged furniture; cut furniture kit materials. Woodworking or building experience, teamwork skills; power tools, physical work clothing and safe shoes required. Must be 18 years old.
Flexible during weekdays 8am to 4pm
Assist clients with furniture selection process. Ongoing commitment needed; training provided; customer service skills and empathy.
Monday – Thursday 9am to 2pm
Furniture AssemblyIndividuals or max 15 people for groups
Assemble and/or paint furniture from pre-cut materials and hardware. Training provided onsite; physical work clothing suitable for painting and safe shoes. We usually schedule at least one month out for volunteer groups.

Furniture Loading & UnloadingIndividuals
Assist with loading and unloading trucks; move furniture in the warehouse. Physical labor skills, physical work clothing and safe shoes required.
Weekdays 8am to 3pm
Furniture with a Heart Thrift StoreIndividuals or max 15 people for groups
Donation processing, cleaning and organization, office support, facility maintenance. Ongoing and one-time opportunities available.
By appointment Mondays – Fridays 11am-3pm; Saturdays 10am to 6pm; and Sundays 12pm to 6pm
Dresser Assembly CrewIndividuals
Work as part of a team to build dressers. Ongoing commitment needed; training provided but comfort with tools help.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am to 2pm
Moving furniture within the warehouse and showroom, sorting 8-foot sheets of particle board. Physical labor skills, physical work clothing and safe shoes required.
By appointment Mondays – Fridays 11am – 8pm; Saturdays 10am to 6pm; and Sundays 12pm to 6pm
Housewares OrganizationIndividuals or groups
Assist with organizing housewares department. Organizational skills.
Weekdays 8am to 4pm
Make thank you calls to furniture donors, prepare mailings. Basic phone skills; basic data; casual office attire.

Special EventsIndividuals or groups
Assist with planning, preparations and execution of special events. Teamwork skills; event planning and/or organization skills.

We are fortunate to have generous volunteer support to help us serve families in need in our community. Last year more than 2,800 volunteers provided over 25,000 hours of service to help turn empty houses into homes!
Questions about Volunteering?
We schedule groups in the woodshop according to the following schedule:
- Mid-November: schedule for January and February
- Mid-January: schedule for March and April
- Mid-March: schedule for May and June
- Mid-May: schedule for July and August
- Mid-July: schedule for September and October
- Mid-September: schedule for November and December
We typically schedule groups at the thrift store one month out.
For the woodshop:
Volunteers between 14-18 may use cordless drills and circular sander to assist with painting, furniture building, kit assembly, and furniture repurposing. Volunteers under 14 (or requiring guardianship) may use hand tools to assist with cleaning, painting, furniture building, or kit assembly.
For the thrift store:
We can take volunteers age 13 and over at the thrift store.
We will take court-ordered volunteers in certain circumstances.
