Furniture Bank of Central Ohio provides free furniture to people in need due to poverty or other severe life challenges. Our goal is for all central Ohio families to live in furnished homes, thereby relieving suffering, strengthening family units, improving quality of life and building a better community.
The referring agency pays an administrative fee of $45-$70 for each referral and the Furniture Bank covers the remainder of the $275, which is the average cost to provide a family with 13-15 pieces of furniture. Those 13-15 pieces of furniture are conservatively valued over $500 and would be worth $2,000 – $3,000 if purchased new. So, in reality, we are helping our partner agencies leverage $45-$70 into 13-15 pieces of furniture for their clients.
We take stewardship of donor dollars seriously as they go directly to program services. In addition, our fee for service and social enterprise income constitutes 27% of our annual cash funding and covers all of our administrative and overhead costs.

Agency Referral fees – Cost-sharing of 20-25% of our costs by referring agencies and sponsors
Delivery Service fees – Same-day delivery of furniture to client homes (usually 3 to 4 hours) at below-market rates
Furniture Auctions – Monthly online auctions of donated high valued furniture and furniture not well suited for client homes. We only auction 2-3% of all furniture donations
This self-funding is about 27% of our annual budget, which is sufficient to pay all our administrative and overhead costs. As a result, donor dollars can go directly to help struggling families.
