Presenting sponsor Big Lots promised that our annual “Big Hearts for Empty Houses” event would be “BIG” again this year, and it did not disappoint.
More than 700 people joined Big Lots, the Furniture Bank board and staff on Friday, May 3rd at the LC Pavilion in the Arena District to enjoy a truly great evening of food and drink (a la Cameron Mitchell), music and dancing (a la Party On The Moon), and one-of-a-kind live and silent auction items.
It was an emotional moment when Furniture Bank President Jim Stein gave a stirring tribute to retiring Big Lots CEO Steve Fishman for his devotion to the Furniture Bank mission over the past 7 years.
There are not enough words of gratitude for the years of
exemplary support that Steve Fishman, his management team and their entire organization have given in support of “turning empty houses into homes” for central Ohio’s families struggling with poverty.
All in all, it was a life-changing evening for thousands of families in need in central Ohio. Our BIGgest “thank you” goes out to all the sponsors and supporters who joined in to make this possible.

While the February auction was certainly a big deal, it onlyContinue Reading
The title says “wrap-up” but it could just as easily say “stuffing” instead. Why? We enjoyed a historically terrific response to our Tables for Thanksgiving program this year, stuffing our warehouse with good stuff for families! We could go on and on, but let’s just get to the good part: Tables for Thanksgiving 2012-By theContinue Reading

When we kicked off this year’s “Tables for Thanksgiving” event, we set out to make 500 tables between October 1 and Thanksgiving Day. To be honest, it sounded a little crazy. Five hundred tables? Really? Well, we did it. Actually, YOU did it. Yes, you–the talented and generous volunteers and donors of Columbus. You madeContinue Reading
We are very keen on partnerships. We love a win-win situation. Even better is a win-win-win: we win, our partner organization wins, and our client families win! We have been enjoying a couple of these partnerships recently. First, our friends at Environmental Reclaim, LLC held an e-waste collection near our warehouse by Rickenbacker Airport. TheContinue Reading
